Olivie's Loving Dream manga (ETA: + translation) pt. 1 up; new manga & Vocal Complete box TBR

"Olivie's Loving Dream" Part One has been up for a couple days at the manga site. It has some very good Olivie moments, but also some frustrating bits regarding its treatment of its female characters (though not to the degree of Oscar Pt. 1, thank God). I should have a translation up today or tomorrow NOW.

Also: On July 24th (after Olivie Pt. 2 at the start of July), they're also going to be releasing two published manga: Angelique Retour Vol. 1 and Angelique Retour Secret Side Vol. 1. The former promises to be the "complete edition" of the promo manga released in Sho-Comi earlier (Amazon.jp says it's 192 pages, so I guess they did expand on that comic considerably); the latter is a compilation of the backstory comics we've been reading. Each volume will cost under 500 yen.

Additionally: an Angelique Vocal Complete box is scheduled for release on July 22 for 21,600 yen. 14 discs, with a bonus disc of unreleased songs. (Will it include even rare stuff, like seasonal festival songs etc.? I'll be surprised as heck if it does.)

ETA the title's so long I can't fit any more information in it: In knocking around the Retour site & associated links, I came across the Twitter for Miko Mitsuki, the artist for the Retour comics. If you click through the photos listed on the bottom of the left column, you'll find a good number of promo & birthday pics (and even a couple short comics) she's drawn for Retour.



There's also her blog, which doesn't have much but does have a very pretty pic of Rosalia & Limoges as the header.

Thank you again for the translations! And ah... I somehow really hope the game writers aren't taking these new manga stories into consideration and going by the older content... I don't know if the characters are meant to be younger here or how they're trying to justify it but they just seem kind of OOC to me. Olivie is my favorite character in Angelique. I have such mixed feelings about how they're portraying them all.

Also that's awesome about the Angelique Vocal Complete box, I wonder what they're going to include in that. I think I'll wait until we get a track listing but I'm afraid they'll be sold out by then. Hmmm...

Yeah, I definitely understand what you mean about "mixed feelings" regarding the writing. There are some great individual lines & bits that really get the characters (the "If I am not perfect" Julious line that you observed; I also like Olivie's "Beauty doesn't let those things touch it" bit, which I thought was a very him statement), and I thought the Julious manga's ending was well-done in certain crucial aspects. I also think, though, that there are some big miscalculations on how the characters come off at times.

I don't know how much input Miko Mitsuki has on the game's story (or even how much direction from Koei she's being given regarding the manga stories - the credits say she's the author, with Ruby Party supervising). The manga is definitely a big promotional tool for the game, though, so I think they would ensure that its contents reflect at least to some extent what we'll be getting in the actual game. Hopefully, they'll capitalize on the manga's strong points and minimize its weaknesses before this is all out.

I am curious as to what they're going to put on the CD set. Roughly estimating, if we take all the songs from the major CD releases and put 'em on CDs without any drama tracks, that's about 10-11 discs. I have to wonder how obscure they're going to get in the songs they include (again: Neoromance festivals & holiday songs?). They have pretty ample print runs, even on limited-edition stuff, so I think you're safe waiting for a tracklist, if that's an issue.
