Julious, Part One

The first part of Julious story for Secret Side is up. I must say, his father has quite the creeper 'stache there. Something about it makes me ill. Looks like they've redesigned Shion (the Guardian of Darkness pre-Clavis). He seems to have cut his hair quite a bit. I had a picture of the nine previous Guardians together, but I seem to have misplaced it. If anyone knows the picture I'm talking about and happens to possess it, I would appreciate it if you could post it. I'm pretty sure I got my copy off of Marfisa, but I emailed them weeks ago and I only got a fluff reply.

I'll try to snag the larger group image tonight, but in the meantime, here's a portrait of Shion, by artist Akiko Hamada:



Name taken from 紫苑, a portmanteau meaning "violet garden" (the color, not necessarily the flower).

Incidentally, the former Guardians were introduced in a feature in LoveLove Tsuushin where readers were encouraged to submit their own designs for the former Guardians; the editors' picks for the best submissions were then showcased along with the reveal of the Guardian's official look. Sometimes, the reader submissions were more interesting than the official ideas:



Not sure if it's legible in the scan, but the Guardian on the upper-right is named "Reykjavik." That is excellent.

Yay, thank you! You're right, some of those fan illustrations are pretty interesting. The bottom right looks kind of like a cross between Oscar and Julious. Maybe I'm a bit air-headed (or just really, really tired) but what's the significance of Reykjavik? As far as I'm (Google) is aware, it's a city in Iceland. The most northern of cities, granted, but beyond that I'm kind of clueless. Care to share?

Oh, there's no special meaning about the "Reykjavik" thing; I just thought it was a neat name for a Guardian of Darkness both soundwise and in how it's taken from a city in an icy, isolated land in with very long nights in winter. (Of course, it has very long days in summer...but I suppose it's human nature not to be as concerned about long days...)

I did manage the scan of the full spread of the former Guardians. It's in two parts and isn't gonna be the same quality as the original, but:

As for Reykjavik, I agree. When you say that way, it certainly is a fitting name for a Guardian of Darkness.

Reykjavik would be an amazing name for a Guardian of Dark. XD ...And now I'm tempted to make my own set of Guardians with names based on Norse gods. *facepalmdesk*

Guardian of Light: Balder (god of light)
Guardian of Dark: Hod (god of darkness, Balder's twin brother)
Guardian of Green: Freyr (god of fertility)
Guardian of Wind: Odin (the sky god)
Guardian of Fire: Loki (trickster god of fire)
Guardian of Earth: Heimdall (the watchman of the gods, doesn't get along with Loki)
Guardian of Steel: Vidar (has boots made of steel)
Guardian of Water: Aegir (personification of the sea)
Guardian of Dream: Bragi (god of poetry)

...Cities and vanished kingdoms would make for great Guardians, too. XD Like Ayutthaya and Atlantis for Dream and Water~

I snatched those scans of the former Guardians, too. I've only found really small and sucky scans of them and now I can finally see these guys in such detail~

I even went ahead and tried to romanize their names. XD

Middle: Guardian of Steel, Kyrie Ereison (pretty boy?! No wonder Zephel calls him delicate.)

Bottom right: Guardian of Wind, Lynx/Linx (I kinda knew he was Wind by just looking at him)

Top right: Guardian of Light, Regulus (...of course the lion-looking guy gets the name of Leo's star)
Bottom left: Guardian of Fire, Alexia (apparently he's also called Alexei and Alexander)

Not sure how right Kyrie's last name is, or Fan Wei for that matter. Lynx/Linx and Hugh/Hugues are also pretty problematic. xD

...Design-wise, I'm REALLY liking Kyrie, Shion, Regulus and Alexia. Though I like Lynx/Linx's outfit - especially that blue shirt (my friend and I basically borrowed it to make an outfit for my original character, an angel/demon hybrid called Matthew. XD).
