[mod talk] Calling all layout makers~

Hello! Your moderator here. I've been busy with life lately and haven't had the time to give the community a good polish, but now that I've got more time on my hands I'd like to clean things up.

First of all, I think it's about time for a new layout! The current layout spills all over the place in my browser (Chrome) and leaps out of its table at times, so I think it's time for a shiny new one. If no one helps out I'll either have to figure out how to repair the current one (just tried and failed miserably) or go to a default LJ one (yuck), so I thought I'd fish for someone more talented. :D

So, if you've got some talent with LJ layouts (I sure as heck don't), I'm looking for a layout that:

* contains an image of NeoRomance characters. The more the merrier. Try to represent all three series equally (Angelique, Corda, and Haruka)
* no text on the images is preferred
* must be compatible with more than just Internet Explorer (Firefox, Chrome, and so on)
* needs a sidebar that contains all of the links in the current sidebar
* entries' text does not spill out from tables
* sidebar must contain a way to easily access entry tags (gasp!), even as the number of tags grow

The reward for your hard work will be your name credited on the sidebar and you get to request one NeoRomance sketch or chibi (please specify which you'd like) from me. :D Woo, fanart~

If you can help me out, please let me know via message (check my profile and click "send message"). If more than one person offers to help, the one I like best will have their layout posted and get the sketch.

As soon as a new layout is up, I'd like to set up a tag system to make things easier for you guys. Somehow this little community has exploded and is approaching 1000 members..! So I'd like to make it easier to find what you're looking for. After the shiny new layout appears, I'll be going back through several years of entries (wish me luck;;) to tag everything appropriately so everyone can find what they want without having to dig.

I hope to get everything up and renewed as soon as possible. Thanks, everyone, for years of support!

Just a thought: is it okay if we edit tables from another user and credit them? It might be easier that way. /has no skills in CSS at all

If you ask the person for permission to tweak their tables as a base for something original, then sure, go ahead. :D

Well, the only thing I'll be capable of is making a Brady Bunch-style header for the layout. Which sounds incredibly cheesy.

^^ Who knows ? It might be a Brady Bunch-style header with a twist~ Some people don't know what will happen but when they sit in front of their graphics program and play around... wow. Go for whatever that strikes you ^_^

(and erm... i will hang around to provide moral support, etc, that sort of thing ^^;)

It just sounds so corny, I don't know if it'll even work well with NeoRoma characters. XD But playing around on photoshop sounds like a good idea, I'll try it XD

I've no idea what your new tag system will be like, otherwise I'd start tagging all my future posts in a moving forward-ish manner. ^^ (But no worries, I'll probably go back to tag all my old posts after things are decided).

I honestly have no idea what my tag system will be like yet either. XD But I'm open to suggestions for stuff you'd like to see~
I'll just go back and tag each post one by one until my head explodes once I figure out the tags, though. I'll just make the tags up as I go along for whatever's appropriate~

Erm, just realized there's about 6 years worth of posts here XD I don't know, maybe before starting on this mission single-handedly it might not hurt to ask the active members to volunteer to tag their own past posts ? Short of roping in full volunteers to help you tag each and every post with temporary co-mod rights. ^^;

*lol* I was thinking of something reasonable, such as posts made in this year (but I guess I didn't express that thought well XD). I'd be crazy enough to go back and tag posts I made 5 years ago though (IF I had any that far back, that is XD).

(My posts are, I don't know, slightly from the left field ? So let me know if you've settled on anything resembling a "parody" or "humor" tag and I shall happily begin tagging XD)

There are comms out there without LJ tags and don't intend to change soon, so everyone knows you're taking care of us~ ^^

I'm so sorry that you're having troubles with my layout! I haven't seen/touched that coding in ages, so I have no idea how to fix the problems. I think a new layout is a great idea, though!

It's okay. :D Good job on your layout~! I only recently started using the Google Chrome browser (it's so fast!) and realized that Chrome gobbles the community layout into pieces. I had no idea how to fix it and my attempts ended in failure. I thought about messaging you to see if you could tweak it, but I decided instead to use it as a chance to freshen up the community with something brand new instead to welcome the tag system. ^^
