Somewhere along the way, a 'character list' or 'filter' was added to the Angelique category of FF net :

http://www.fanfiction.net/game/Angelique/

Oh friends, even Ervin is up there while Julious, Clavis et al never even makes it into the list. Quite an outrage, IF the irony wasn't so deliciously hilarious *rofl*,

Note: This post is NOT a rant, it's only highlighting something my semi-twisted humor found amusing. XD Most likely the list was submitted by a very dedicated Neo Ange fangirl who hasn't been exposed to the 'original' Angelique. So no worries~ though someone does need to get the original Angelique list to FF, post-haste.

Something this NeoAnge fan noticed

Is it a misspelling, or did the fansub really name her "Sedona"? They didn't get the "Sedna" reference?

To get technical, his name should be "Hyuuga"; the double vowel means that the vowel sounds should be held twice as long (forgive me if I'm mentioning something of which you're already aware), and that is indeed the way they pronounce his name in the anime and whatnot (and spell it in Japanese characters). The game OP and whatnot, though, opt for just plain "Hyuga" in Roman letters, so we're all deferring to creator spelling preference.

(The creators may just not understand or care about depicting the double vowel in Roman letters, a not-unheard-of occurrence. The double vowel is usually indicated with a macron (bar) over a single vowel - "Hyƫga" - but, often, people don't know what the funny marks on the letters mean and consequently just omit them. That may be what's happening here, or, again, they may just not care.)

Heck, *I* gave up on spellchecking when they named him "Leviath", then gave him a big gold "R" dangling from his chest in the "Stay" music video.

My reaction...

*sees the filter* ? Oh, finally... *checks filter* Eh? What the...? *shakes head in amusement* Geez...

It is amusing yet frustrating at the same time...

*facepalm* This is the part where I suffer from second-hand emabarassment as a fellow NeoAnge fangirl. orz(I need to start watching/reading the original, stat. Anyone got pointers on where to start?)

@indigozeal; Apparently so, since wikipedia someone's spelt it as such. I didn't really notice it though, I guess my mind auto spellchecked it. :S

Awesome. My only experience with the original is through the copy of NR Festa 10 DVD I have so it's not much really... ^ ^;

I've heard terrible things about Koisuru Tenshi (especially in regards to animation), so I think I've been scared off. I'll definitely try for the OVAs first then. Oh snap, perhaps I should find some really badly animated anime episodes to mentally preapre myself? *g*

I wouldn't say the animation is bad, but the drawings themselves leave much to be desired. They don't look like their OVA and game counter parts.

1) I love, and by "love" I mean "apologize for", how I've twisted a post about Traditional Ange getting shafted for NeoAnge into a NeoAnge-centric post.

2) The OVAs are the easiest way to experience Ange, but they might come off as a tad odd to someone who isn't already a fan; save for OVA4, they don't have much of a plot and serve more as a delivery system of glamour shots for the characters. This is a somewhat a hold-over from Ange's origins as a game in the Super Famicom/early Playstation days, when CD technology was early, anime cutscenes were sparse and a bit rough (if included at all), and most of what fans saw of the characters was through sprites; everyone was just happy to see their favorite guys in full motion, speaking and walking around and looking pretty.

Part of it, though, is that original Angelique, especially when compared to the Neo Ange anime, usually doesn't have much of character development or plot beyond "someone named Angelique is trying to cultivate a continent and/or become a Queen". It's also a lot more pink and fluffy. I'm certainly not trying to scare you off, being an Ange fan myself; it's just a markedly different franchise and calls for a bit of revision in one's expectations at times. Its big drawing point is the male characters, who are very lovable and charming.

3) Sableblanc has done the public service announcement, but just to underline for anyone else reading who's interested in introducing themselves to the original Angelique: stay away from the Koi Suru Tenshi series. Everyone notices the poor animation quality (which really does get worse and worse upon close inspection), but what turned me off definitively was how just utterly hateful many of the Angelique characters come off. The writers, apparently under the influence of narcotics, turned nearly everyone into a spiteful thug, an elitist snob, or an ineffectual wimp, and they're not that way at all anywhere else.

(Also, in adapting the last story in a long-running franchise, it has to stop a lot to fill in the viewers on what happened in whatever previous game/video/book via flashbacks or exposition dumps or whatnot. A newcomer is just going to get confused.)

4) Did you get my message a long while back regarding that NeoAnge epilogue manga? (Geez, I don't want to be one of those people: "Didja get my message? Didja didja didja, huh?")

1) Don't worry, you can always share your love for both series! o/

2) Yeah, from what little I know it's kinda hard to wrap my head around so many characters at once. I'm glad that the OVAs focus on two characters at a time. I guess I should research on Marfisa's site then...

3) Well, damn. I guess I'd need popcorn.gif and a huge dose of tolerance to live through it once I get up to it. XD There definiely should be a public post/wiki for NeoRomance fans on what they should start on and what order.

4) I found it, after combing through my message inbox and cleaning up a bunch of messages I don't need. Thanks very much! :D

I'm actually not too familiar with Haruka either (besides knowing what some characters look like), so Corda and NeoAnge are the only two neo-romance series I'm well acquainted with. XD

I am finding the Angelique here's voice somewhat annoying, but that's because of my obvious bias for Endou Aya. The excerpt itself isn't that bad (yet) though. ^ ^;

Daaamn, that OP is pretty. I'll def be watching that now, thanks! (I also am a fan of older series, having grown up with Sailor Moon and DBZ :D)

Yeah, sacrilege of the male character is just asking for it.

No worries there, I'm open to nearly all genres when it comes to anime-romance. Also, I am a sap for fluff so... I did not know about this recycling of plots. *sigh* Koei.

So that's what was going on in Gaiden 2!! I was wondering what had happened! Thanks for that explanation!

It saddens me to see that people know nothing of the original Ange characters. They were around for SO long, and NeoAnge comes along and erases that all overnight. I love NeoAnge, but I hate that the original characters have been forgotten and discarded by so many. :(
