There doesn't seem to be a generic discussion thread, so might as well add it here.
It was better-done, if overwrought, but the overwrought Baroque gothy stuff seems to be Neo Ange's milieu. That said, I could've done with cutting all the flashy battle moves and overobvious, drawn-out reaction shots in favor of moving the story along.
I thought the animation was sharp, though, with everyone well-drawn; I liked the little careful touches like Ange's hair ribbons bouncing fron side to side in concert with her gait just before she meets the cat. The *color* was really well-done - it's attractive how unusual colors like the strong sea green of Angelique's eyes, the wine-maroon of the school uniforms, and the light blue of Ange's hair can be the basis of the palette and actually work. The design of the school uniforms was sharp, too, and I like the alpine-Bavarian architecture and terrain.
The cutesy SD stuff and Ange's dumb, bubbly schoolmates tried my patience, even if the latter were less dumb and bubbly than the usual schoolmates. Human Interest, go 'way. The flashback to the death of Angelique's parents was well-handled, I thought, because it was to-the-point and potent.
I'm inpressed that this Angelique wants to become a doctor; I can't recall any Angelique wanting to be anything but a pretty sparkly thing.
Be nice if Nyx would save his noblesse oblige pontificating for a time when the characters aren't in mortal peril. I know he has his reasons for dragooning Ange into the corps, but I found him to be a big condescending jerk. On the other hand, I actually *didn't mind* Rayne here, whom I usually can't stand one bit, so good job, show.
Happy to have my prediction that Mathias is a villain confirmed.
And two questions:
1) Could they think of no more terrifying monster than a giant Pokemon?
2) So, the giant question of "who gets Ange?" is determined by "who's most likely to wear a suit like the one in the ED?". (I'd say Bernard, but there's no way Ange's getting with Bernard.)
