OK: Enclosed please find a translation of most of Julious & Clavis's lines from the first Angelique game. This is part of a project - what I'm sure will be a very long & gradual project - to translate most of the script to the original Angelique. I'm working out of the Angelique Message Collection script compilation, which is considerably easier than hunting through the game itself for lines...but there is a ton of text to this game, so it's going to be slow going in any case.

I go over this in the intro, but: I am aware that the presentation needs serious work. I used the format presented in the book, but after looking through the finished version of Julious & Clavis's lines, I realized that...it had a lot more limitations than I realized. I tried tweaking it over the past couple days, but my efforts seemed simply to make matters worse, so a more workable fix is going to take a little while. Getting it looking good - i.e., better than something made with late-'90's HTML, something with actual wraparounds in those flowcharts - is going to have to wait until the translation itself is finished. There's just way too much translating to do right now for me to wrestle with the pit of user-unfriendliness that is CSS.

Observations about Julious & Clavis's lines themselves:

Julious:

- On his family: "...At times, love is something given harshly. You would do well to remember that." Good Lord, Julious.
- Julious's "I just can't enamor myself of ill-mannered women. ...Because that boorishness so often wounds others emotionally" makes me wonder if it's not meant as an allusion to the Julious-Clavis-255 incident.
- Regarding Julious's favorite foods: I encourage to look up pictures of terrine on Google Images. It is Oscar Meyer pimento loaf. You love Oscar Meyer pimento loaf, Julious.

Clavis:

- I'm sure the passive-aggressive knocks at Julious are to no one's surprise: "I cannot understand how other people find [escargot] to be appetizing"; "There are those in the Sanctuary who have voiced concern that I shut myself up in my room."
- Back when I listened to the early Hikari to Yami no Sakuria CD, I didn't like the performance by Bin Shimada, Clavis's first seiyuu; I thought he sounded overly bratty. Upon reviewing SFAM Clavis's lines, though...he is bratty, kind of.
-Clavis on queens:
"...A Queen candidate... If you are no longer determined to become the Queen, then stop the exam! If you become Queen without desiring to do so, and are then able only to pray for the happiness of world that does not include yourself...well. I am aware of such stories from long ago. That is why I have no desire to see a Queen who is not happy."
"...The Queen is the only one to whom I pledge my loyalty. For the Queen, I would dare say I would think nothing of throwing away my very life..."
- Best line, from Ange, in shock after a successful date: "...Clavis said he ENJOYED something!"
