Not entirely satisfied with this and might rework it a bit.

- Pleased to meet you, Luva. I'm looking forward to the interview!

Yes, I'm quite looking forward to it, too!—

- How would you like me to address you, Luva?

Well, usually, that changes according to what this relationship is to me... I myself am accustomed to being called "Luva," so that would be fine with me.

- Thank you. You don't come across as a teacher, Luva.

My, oh, my, I don't? But I have a reputation for being a horribly strict teacher...

- What?!

...Yes, it's quite incredible, isn't it?—

- Yes.

Well, it's only human nature to think that way, so there's nothing I can do about it. My students somehow wind up becoming like my tea-drinking friends, and I don't mind since I don't see a problem with it, but the other professors sometimes end up warning me about it. But even if I'm told to stay strict, I can't help it, and it'd be quite unlike me to do otherwise.

- Luva, I think you must be popular among the students. What do you teach at the university?

Well——I teach archaeology. Eastern archaeology, to be precise. I mainly study anicient Chinese royalty and dynasties. So much has happened over China's long history, but if you think about it all not just from the perspective of China alone, but in terms of its connections with other countries, you understand that in history, everything is the product of many different root causes that are so intertwined and yet develop together. And the most significant of those causes are the thoughts and emotions of the people involved, aren't they? Cultures and dynasties are destroyed and then reborn, and yet throughout it all, our emotions endure throughout the ages...that's what I want to believe. So that's why I want to discover the things that only seem to have disappeared.—

- ...That's awesome!

Yes, it really is! You have an interest as well, then? That makes me happy!

- It seems very interesting. Do you think even I could understand it?

Yes, of course! That's the first step to discovering our history! It's like a journey to follow in the footsteps of the feelings and thoughts that come from our faraway ancestors and connect us to them. If you have the interest...then, yes, I'd recommend to start by trying to read the local history of the area in which you live!—

- All right; I will! Whew; well, then, next question. Please tell us about the country in which you currently live.

Right now, I live in Shanghai. Shanghai is a bustling area, and it's a little too hectic in places for me, but it's lively, and it also has its places that are cheerful and quite pleasant, too. Many sorts of people from many different countries come here, and it's a place of cultural exchange - you can have so many extremely interesting meetings with people.— Originally, I lived in a more mountainous region, but I stay at the university to continue my research. When I first came to Shanghai, I was so confused, since the area was quite different from my ownhomeland. My homeland, you see, places a great deal of importance on tradition, and life there doesn't change much over time. Even with clothing, I still haven't been able to get completely used to Western wear...

- So you come from a people with a rich tradition.

Ha ha, I suppose so. But then, I think of this country itself as a gathering of people who cherish their traditions. My mother's current home is in a place that is like the entrance to the Silk Road, and so you might say that many traditions intermingled there to form a brand new culture...

- How romantic! Please tell us about the family with whom you live.

Well——I have my parents and a younger brother. But my father has remarried, and my brother is still very young. You see—in view of our ages, we might be more like uncle and nephew than we are brothers. But he's very cute. We've become very close.

- Please tell us about your daily schedule, Luva.

It's nothing really out of the ordinary! I wake up in the morning, go to the university and conduct research, head off to the Society, meet with many different people... I've been told by my students and others that I
lead a rather simple, unexciting day-to-day life, but I'm rather partial to it.

- Is there any one thing on which you just won't compromise?

"Won't compromise," hmmm... Oh, yes, yes - I always be sure to make plenty of time for reading. Books are wellsprings of knowledge! Those who know me say that I wouldn't be able to live if I didn't have a book at my side...and they're most probably correct!

- Tell us about your fashion hang-ups.

It's not really what you would call a "hang-up," but I don't really feel comfortable in Western wear, so that's how I came to my usual look. —Oh, yes; and I also prefer clothing that's comfortable and not very form-fitting!

- If you had a date with a lady, where would you take her?

Well, I'm not sure that a date with me would be very enjoyable, but... —Well, let's see. I guess I'd have to ask my students what a good date destination would be. Ahh, but I get the feeling that I wouldn't be very comfortable if I took their advice!......

- L, Luva? (Was that question too difficult for him?)

I'm also not at my best in the city of Shanghai itself, so I'd have to find someplace that we could enjoy together.—

- (Whew.) If you had to give a present to a lady, what sort of present would you like to give her?

I think I'd like to give her something that would make her happy! I'd like to find something like a charm or amulet that she could take with her wherever she went to make her a little happier along the way.

- Who would be your ideal woman, Luva?

My ideal woman - that's another difficult question! Um—...well—...let me see... I think a gentle person who would make me happy being with her would put me at ease a little. But...you hear that quite often, don't you? That the person with whom you've fallen in love is your ideal mate. I really think that's the best answer, myself!—

- Thank you very much. We've finally reached the last question. Do you have a message for the ladies?

Ha ha; that makes me nervous! I'm not the type of person who can say these sensitive sorts of things all that well. I'd be concerned; I wouldn't want you to be bored being with me, considering my slow-paced lifestyle. I know you will bring me all sorts of joy and surprises, and so I wonder if I shouldn't give you something in return. —Yes, that's it; how about a calming time together - a soothing time? I want to do anything I can. Please allow me to help you. And if we have a good time together...nothing would make me happier. I'll be looking forward to meeting you!—
